ÉLECTROSONS_ELECTROSOUNDS
2000 – 2002

A project that grew out of an immersion into Montréal’s electronic music scene via the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma’s Media Lounge and MUTEK. Caroline Hayeur followed over several years the emergence and growth of these audio movements. More than visual documentation, Hayeur chose to translate the rapid rise of this phenomenon as one of its intrinsic participants.

The first body of work featured a series of photographs taken at the Media Lounge in 1999. Invited by curator Emmanuel Galland, Hayeur transformed her series into an in situ installation for the windows of the Fourth Stage venue at the National Arts Centre. It was created specifically for the e_lounge space as part of the Americas Cultural Summit hosted by the Canada Council for the Arts in Ottawa, in 2000.

The second body of work grew out of Caroline Hayeur’s involvement as MUTEK’s official photographer. To celebrate the event’s fifth anniversary, Hayeur created a mosaic work of 120 images printed on acetate. This installation is inspired by 1960s design and fashion designer Paco Rabanne. It was presented throughout Québec and internationally, namely during the first biennale MUTEK.CL in Valparaiso (Chile, 2004), at the Société des arts technologiques (2005), and several other venues as part of the MUTEK_Pacific tour (China, 2005).
