In situ Saint-Michel
2020 –

Given carte blanche to produce a project for the 4th edition of the Résidence in situ creation program, an initiative of the Maison Photo Montréal in collaboration with the Montréal Archives, Caroline Hayeur went to find out more about the district of Saint-Michel and its history.

Equipped with archival photographs of “Ville Saint-Michel” from the 1960s, Hayeur wandered through the neighbourhood to produce a series of diptychs that record changes to the area’s social, landscape, and topographic elements. Local businesses, low-cost housing (HLM), the Metropolitan Autoroute, Frédéric-Back Park: her superimposed images highlight the neighbourhood’s unique characteristics.
