PRIMAL
2015
A collaborative and immersive experience, PRIMAL is a “scream factory” that allows participants to showcase their primal emotions by contributing to the production of an eternal scream. This project was the result of a collaboration between the Montreal Interactive Studio at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and Encuentro, the Argentine Ministry of Education’s television channel.
“Warning! Powerful screams and guaranteed release!”
“Through our screams, we release our innermost, primitive expression. Whether it be joy, surprise, anger, fear, hatred or passion, the scream is the most intense unfurling of our emotions and our most basic instinct. The scream is universal and brings us back to the roots of humanity.” – Primal
As a virtual outlet, this interactive project became a space for expression that allowed youth from Québec and Argentina to connect with each other. In addition to collecting screams, the collaboration created a dialogue through audio and video self-portraits between two groups of teens from opposite ends of the Americas. Their discussions were recorded via the NFB/interactive platform.
